  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch cake pans by greasing them lightly and lining the bottoms with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, black cocoa powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Incorporate the buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar into the mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, being careful to mix until just combined.
  • Add black food coloring to achieve your desired shade, mixing until the color is evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
