For the custard

For the ganache

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then pour in the milk and vanilla.
  • Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.

Baking

  • Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Custard Preparation

  • For the custard, whisk together 2 cups of milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks over medium heat until thickened.
  • Stir gently to avoid scorching, then allow the mixture to cool completely.

Ganache Preparation

  • Gently heat the heavy cream until warm and pour it over the chocolate chips. Stir until smooth.

Assembly

  • Layer the cooled custard between the two cake layers and top generously with ganache.

Notes

Ensure your butter is softened before blending, don’t overmix the batter, and cool cake layers completely before layering with custard. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache.
