Ingredients

For the filling

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced For a tender bite
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For melting into the apples
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar For sweetness and depth
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Aromatic and cozy
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Providing a warm, nutty flavor
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour For thickening the filling
  • 1/4 cup water To perfect the consistency

For the caramel sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Rich and creamy
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Providing a deep caramel flavor
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream For a luscious texture

For the pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry Thawed to perfection
  • 1 large egg Beaten until silky, for brushing

Instructions

Prepare the filling

  • In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, followed by the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender. Stir in the flour and a splash of water to thicken. Let it cool slightly.

Prep the pastry

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 6 squares. Score a border inside each square about half an inch from the edges, then brush the borders with the beaten egg.

Assemble

  • Spoon generous amounts of the cooled apple filling into the center of each square, careful not to overfill.

Bake

  • Place the assembled pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Make caramel sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream, bringing to a boil for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow it to cool, thickening as it does.

Drizzle and serve

  • Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the baked pastries and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed and let the apple filling cool before assembling. Can be served with vanilla ice cream or garnished with chopped nuts.
