Ingredients
  

For the marinade

  • 1 tsp ground cumin Adds earthy depth.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Enhances the meat's flavor.
  • ½ tsp kosher salt Enhances and balances flavors.
  • ¼ tsp black pepper Adds just the right touch of heat.

For the steak

  • 1.5 lbs flank steak Tender, juicy cut.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Bring the flank steak to room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, fresh lime juice, chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  • Pat the flank steak dry with paper towels, then rub the marinade on both sides.

Cooking

  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Place the steak in the hot skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes without moving it.
  • Flip the steak and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
  • Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Slice against the grain into thin strips and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, allow steak to reach room temperature before cooking and let it rest after cooking to retain juices.
