Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the egg until well combined.
  • Press half of the mixture into the prepared baking dish to form a crust.

Making the Filling

  • In another bowl, mix the peach slices with brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Spread the peach mixture over the crust evenly.

Baking

  • Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the peaches.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbling.
  • Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

For better results, always use fresh, ripe peaches. Let the bars cool completely to hold their shape when cutting. They can be served with ice cream or caramel sauce for added decadence.
