  • 3/4 cup sugar sweet and inviting

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour light and fluffy
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder for that perfect rise

For the glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar sweet and smooth for glazing
  • 1 tsp additional anise extract to enhance the flavor
  • 2 tbsp milk adjust consistency as needed
  • 1 tbsp nonpareils colorful and festive for decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and sugar, mixing until creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Gradually add the anise extract, milk, and eggs, mixing well after each addition until light and fluffy.
  • Add all-purpose flour, mixing on low speed until just incorporated, and then mix in the baking powder and salt.

Baking

  • Prepare your cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Form small balls of dough (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on the sheets, leaving space between each.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
  • Allow cookies to cool for at least 10 minutes on the baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.

Glazing

  • In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and additional anise extract to make the glaze.
  • Once cookies are cool, drizzle or dip them into the glaze.
  • Sprinkle the tops with nonpareils and let the glaze set.

Notes

Allowing cookies to cool completely before glazing will ensure a perfect finish. For variations, consider a gluten-free option or using a sugar substitute.
