For the tart

  • ½ package ½ (17.3 oz) package frozen puff pastry, thawed light, flaky, and buttery
  • ¼ cup ¼ cup butter, melted brings a creamy texture and hint of richness
  • ⅓ cup ⅓ cup brown sugar deep sweetness caramelizes perfectly with the fruit
  • ¼ teaspoon ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon adds depth to the dish
  • 1 pinch 1 pinch ground nutmeg adds a gentle hint of spice
  • ¼ cup ¼ cup pure maple syrup the star ingredient tying everything together
  • 4 pieces 4 firm pears, peeled, cored, and halved juicy and aromatic

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface until it reaches a thickness of about ¼ inch.
  • Place the rolled pastry in the refrigerator to chill.
  • In a 9-inch cast iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, cooking until the sugar dissolves.
  • Stir in the maple syrup and let it bubble gently.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and arrange the pear halves with the cut side facing up.
  • Return the skillet to medium-low heat and gently baste the pears with the syrup while cooking for about 5 minutes.
  • Retrieve the chilled puff pastry from the fridge and lay it over the pears, tucking the edges into the skillet.
  • Place the skillet in your preheated oven and let it bake until the pastry is golden and puffed, around 20 minutes.
  • Allow the tart to cool for 5 minutes before flipping it onto a serving plate and serving warm.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Pair with tea or coffee for a cozy experience. Avoid overcooking the caramel or using overly ripe pears.
