For the Topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then incorporate the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the buttery mixture, alternating with sour cream.
  • Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts (if using). Sprinkle half of this mixture over the batter.
  • Top with the remaining batter and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon mixture on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream and use whole wheat flour. Allow the cake to cool for better texture.
