  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika Adds mild smokiness.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder Brings aromatic punch.
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper For a subtle kick.
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded Contributes rich, cheesy goodness.

Baking Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter with the melted butter or oil until creamy and well-blended.
  • Add the flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to the mixture, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Fold in the freshly shredded cheddar cheese until evenly incorporated.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ⅛-inch thickness.
  • Cut into 1-2 inch squares or creative shapes.
  • Place on baking sheets, spacing them about ½ inch apart.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, rotating halfway through, until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Serve these crackers on a charcuterie board, with dips, or alongside soup. Make sure your sourdough starter is active for best results.
